This past week I saw an article in the Southwest Wake News about Apex getting one of the first quick charging stations for electric vehicles as well as two additional charging stations. So I decided to go and check them out.
According to the article and the town's website, the new Eaton DC Quick Charger can power the Tesla, Nissan LEAF and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV to about 80 percent capacity in 20-30 minutes, depending on the battery size.

The stations were paid for through a grant from NC State's Solar Center and Advanced Energy. This set of charging stations is being installed along with future units at Duke University in Durham, and North Hills Mall in Raleigh.

While I was there taking pictures, Juliet Hurley, a Nissan LEAF owner, stopped by to charge her vehicle on the quick charger while visiting her customers in the area. Hurley lives in Durham and said that because of the quick charging station she was able to drive her LEAF on that particular day visiting with clients all over the Triangle.
Congratulations to the Town of Apex for receiving the grant to install these charging stations and being one of the few public quick charging stations in the region. Right now the charging stations are free, but the stations are equipped with credit card readers for the future.
